Plavix contains clopidogrel and belongs to a group of medicines called antiplatelet medicinal products. Platelets are small structures in the blood that clump together during blood clotting. By preventing this clumping, antiplatelet medicinal products reduce the chances of blood clots forming, a process known as thrombosis.
Plavix is used by adults to prevent blood clots (thrombi) from forming in hardened blood vessels (arteries), a condition known as atherothrombosis. This can lead to serious events such as strokes, heart attacks, or death.
Precautions and Conditions:
– Do not take Plavix if you have a blood disorder that makes you prone to internal bleeding.
– Avoid Plavix if you have had a recent serious injury or surgery (including dental), or if you have a planned surgery in the next seven days.
– Do not take Plavix if you have had an ischemic stroke within the last seven days.
– Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, a history of non-traumatic brain hemorrhage, or allergies to any medicines.
