Artmether 20MG + Lumefantrine 120MG [AL] 24'S

LONART is indicated in treatment of acute Plasmodium falciparum malaria in adult, children and infants of 5 kg and above. Each uncoated tablet contains 20 mg Artemether and 120 mg lumefantrine. 

Dosage

5–<15 kg: 1 tab po per dose
15–<25 kg: 2 tabs po per dose
25–<35 kg: 3 tabs po per dose
≥35 kg: 4 tabs po per dose
It is a Three-day course treatment:
Day 1: Initial dose and second dose 8 hours later.
Days 2 and 3: 3rd - 6th dose should be administered BID ie 12hourly.

To increase absorption LONART Should be taken with food or a milky drink. If patients are unable to tolerate food, LONART should be administered, but the systemic exposure may be reduced. Patients who vomit within 1 hour of taking the medication should repeat the dose.

Precautions

LONART must not be used in the first trimester of pregnancy in situations where other suitable and effective antimalarial are available.
Patients who remain averse to food during treatment should be closely monitored as the risk of
recrudescence may be greater.
Patients with known hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients should not be given the drug.
Patients with severe malaria according to WHO definition should not be given the drug.
Caution should be taken in Patients who are taking any drug which is metabolised by the cytochrome enzyme CYP2D6 (e.g. metoprolol, imipramine, amitryptyline, clomipramine) and Patients with a history of symptomatic cardiac arrythmias or with clinically relevant bradycardia or with congestive cardiac failure accompanied by reduced left ventricle ejection fraction. Patients with disturbances of electrolyte balance e.g.hypokalemia or hypomagnesemia.
