Treviamet 50/500mg Tablets 35`s contains sitagliptin 50mg and metformin 500mg which are oral diabetes medicines that help control blood sugar levels. It treats type 2 diabetes, metformin works by decreasing glucose (sugar) production in the liver and decreasing absorption of glucose by the intestines. Sitagliptin works by regulating the levels of insulin your body produces after eating. They work effectively when combined with diet and exercise. Sitagliptin and metformin help your pancreas produce more insulin.
Also, it helps facilitate effective use of insulin by the body, and reduce excess sugar that your liver makes. Together, they provide better control of blood sugar.
Dosage
It should be individualized on the basis of patient's current regimen,effectiveness and tolerability while not exceeding the maximum recommended daily dose of 100mg sitagliptin.
It should be given twice daily with meals,with gradul dose escalation, to reduce the GI side effects associated with metformin HCL.
Precautions
It should not be given to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.
It is not recommended in patients with type 1 diabetes, Renal disease, known hypersesitivity, Acute or chronic metabolic acidosis and children under 18years of age.
