Gabbroral 250 mg Tablets contain aminosidine sulphate (paramomycin) which is an aminogylcoside antibiotic. Gabbroral is used in the treatment of intestinal protozoal infection including amoebiasis, cryptosporidiosis and giardiasis. It has been used in the treatment of tapeworm,also in the suppression of intestinal flora both pre-operatively and in the management of hepatic encephalopathy.
Dose
For the treatment of Amoebiasis, Giardiasis (Lambliasis) and Balantidiasis: 250 mg twice a day for 5-7 days.
Precautions
Gabbroral should be used with caution in patients with ulcerative intestinal lesions to avoid renal toxicity through inadvertent absorption of the drug. It also contraindicated in patients with intestinal obstruction and in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug. Common side effects include anorexia, nausea, vomiting, epigastric burning and pain,increased gastro-intestinal motility,abdominal cramps,diarrhoea and pruritis.
