Otrivine Congestion Relief Nasal Spray is an over-the-counter decongestant spray used for the fast relief of a blocked nose. It works within 2 minutes and provides up to 10 hours of easier breathing.
Key Information
-
Active Ingredient: Xylometazoline hydrochloride (0.1%), which shrinks swollen blood vessels in the nose to restore normal airflow. It also contains menthol vapours for a cooling, refreshing sensation.
-
Indications: Relieves nasal congestion and excessive secretions caused by common colds, sinusitis, and allergic rhinitis (such as hay fever).
-
Suitability: Formulated for adults and adolescents over 12 years of age. It is not suitable for infants or children under 12.
How to Use & Dosage
-
Dosage: Administer 1 spray into each nostril up to 3 times daily as needed.
-
Priming the Pump: Before the first use, prime the pump by pressing it down 5 times. If you haven't used it for more than 7 days, reprime it with 2 sprays.
-
Application Steps:
- Blow your nose gently to clear your airways.
- Lean your head forward slightly and insert the nozzle into one nostril.
- Press the pump once while breathing in gently through your nose.
- Wipe the nozzle clean before replacing the protective cap.
Important Safety Warnings
-
7-Day Limit: Do not use this spray continuously for more than 7 consecutive days. Prolonged use can cause the blood vessels to swell further when the medication wears off, leading to worsening congestion (rebound congestion or rhinitis medicamentosa).
-
Hygiene: To avoid cross-infection, each bottle must only be used by one person.
-
Storage & Expiry: Do not use the spray if it has been open for more than 28 days, or if it has passed its expiry date.
-
Medical Precaution: Consult a healthcare provider before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking other medications, or managing underlying medical conditions.
