Otrivine Extra Dual Relief Nasal Spray is a dual-action pharmacy medication formulated to treat nasal congestion (blocked nose) and rhinorrhoea (runny nose) associated with the common cold. It combines a decongestant and an anticholinergic agent to target both symptoms simultaneously, acting within minutes and providing relief for up to 6 to 12 hours.
Active Ingredients
-
Xylometazoline Hydrochloride (0.5 mg/ml): Narrows the blood vessels in the nasal passages to reduce mucosal swelling and open up airways.
-
Ipratropium Bromide (0.6 mg/ml): Reduces excessive mucus secretion to stop a runny nose.
Dosage and Administration
-
Target Audience: Strictly for adults and adolescents 18 to 70 years of age. It is not suitable for children or individuals under 18.
-
Application: One spray into each nostril up to 3 times daily.
-
Spacing: Leave at least 6 hours between consecutive doses.
-
Maximum Duration: Do not use the spray for more than 5 to 7 consecutive days. Overuse can cause rebound congestion (rhinitis medicamentosa), making nasal blockage worse and reducing the drug's effectiveness.
How to Use
-
Prime and Clear: Prime the pump (4–5 presses) before initial use or if unused for 6+ days, and blow your nose gently beforehand.
-
Apply and Clean: Tilt your head slightly forward, spray once into each nostril while breathing in gently, then wipe the nozzle clean and cap it.
