Vermox tablets contain a medicine called mebendazole. It is one of a group of medicines called ‘anthelmintics’.
VERMOX® is indicated for the treatment of single and mixed helminth gastrointestinal
infestations caused by nematodes such as:
-Trichuris trichiura (whipworm)
- Ancylostoma duodenale (hookworm)
- Necator americanus (hookworm)
- Ascaris lumbricoides (large roundworm)
- Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm)
This medicine is for use in adults and children aged over 2 years. You or your child has been advised to take Vermox tablets because you have a worm infection. Worms can infect anyone. It does not necessarily mean that your hygiene is poor.
DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Whipworm; Hookworm; Large Roundworm; Pinworm:
Adults and children older than 1 year: One tablet (500 mg) given as a single dose. The tablets
may be crushed and given with some liquid for children.
A single dose of VERMOX® 500 mg may not be sufficient to cure infestations with hookworm and whipworm (Trichuris) although a substantial reduction in egg count can be expected.
A second course of treatment should be given to those patients who are still infected three to four weeks after the first course.
In worm-eradication campaigns the standard course should be administered every quarter during
the first year.
The efficacy of VERMOX® is dependent upon the duration of physical contact between drug and
parasite.
Precautions
Do not use Vermox tablets if:
-You are allergic to anything in Vermox tablets.
-You are pregnant.
-Vermox tablets should not be given to children under 2 years of age.
-Vermox should only be given to younger children if your doctor has specifically prescribed it. Your doctor will decide whether Vermox is suitable for your child. You must follow the doctor’s instructions carefully.
-Convulsions (seizures) have been reported, including in infants. Vermox should only be given to children under 2 year of age if your doctor has specifically prescribed it.
