Description

Augmentin Es 642.9mg contains amoxicillin 600 mg + clavulanic acid 42.9 mg. It has a broad spectrum activity against:
  • Upper respiratory tract infections (including ENT) e.g. tonsillitis, sinusitis, otitis media.
  • Lower respiratory tract infections e.g. acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, lobar and bronchopneumonia.
  • Genito-urinary tract infections e.g. cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis.
  • Skin and soft tissue infections, e.g. boils, abscesses, cellulitis, wound infections.
  • Bone and joint infections e.g. osteomyelitis.
  • Dental infections e.g. dentoalveolar abscess
  • Other infections e.g. septic abortion, puerperal sepsis, intra-abdominal sepsis.
 
Dose
The recommended dose of Augmentin varies depending on the specific infection being treated, the severity of the infection, and the age and weight of the patient. It is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by your healthcare provider. The following are general guidelines for dosing:
  • Paediatric patients aged 12 weeks (3 months) and older: 25 to 45 mg/kg/day every 12 hours Or 20 to 40 mg/kg/day every 8 hours, based on the amoxicillin component.
  • Neonates and infants <12 weeks of age: 30 mg/kg /day 12 hourly, based on amoxicillin component.
  • Augmentin should be taken at the start of a meal to enhance the absorption of amoxicillin and to minimize the potential for gastrointestinal intolerance.

precautions
  • Let your doctor know if you are allergic to beta-lactams eg penicillins and cephalosporins or have had any severe allergic reactions in the past.
  • Provide a complete medical history, inform your doctor about any medical conditions you have.
  • Take the medication as prescribed: Follow the dosing schedule and duration of treatment recommended by your healthcare provider. Do not stop taking the drug before completing the full course, even if your symptoms improve, as this can lead to the development of antibiotic resistance.
  • Avoid certain medications and substances,inform your doctor of any other medications, supplements, or herbal products you are taking, as they may interact with the drug.
