Clavulin 228mg contains amoxicillin 200mg + clavulanic acid 28.5mg. It has a broad spectrum activity against:
- Upper respiratory tract infections (including ENT) e.g. tonsillitis, sinusitis, otitis media.
- Lower respiratory tract infections e.g. acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, lobar and bronchopneumonia.
- Genito-urinary tract infections e.g. cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis.
- Skin and soft tissue infections, e.g. boils, abscesses, cellulitis, wound infections.
- Bone and joint infections e.g. osteomyelitis.
- Dental infections e.g. dentoalveolar abscess
- Other infections e.g. septic abortion, puerperal sepsis, intra-abdominal sepsis.
Dose
The recommended dose of Clavulin varies depending on the specific infection being treated, the severity of the infection, and the age and weight of the patient. It is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by your healthcare provider. The following are general guidelines for dosing:
- Paediatric patients aged 12 weeks (3 months) and older: 25 to 45 mg/kg/day every 12 hours Or 20 to 40 mg/kg/day every 8 hours, based on the amoxicillin component.
- Neonates and infants <12 weeks of age: 30 mg/kg /day 12 hourly, based on amoxicillin component.

Clavulin should be taken at the start of a meal to enhance the absorption of amoxicillin and to minimize the potential for gastrointestinal intolerance.
