Daktarin Cream is a broad-spectrum topical antifungal medication used to treat a variety of fungal skin and nail infections. Its active ingredient is miconazole nitrate (2%), which works by destroying the cell membranes of fungi and targeting certain associated bacteria.
What It Treats
Daktarin Cream is commonly used to treat:
-
Athlete's foot (tinea pedis)
-
Jock itch (tinea cruris) or dhobie itch
-
Ringworm (tinea corporis)
-
Fungal nappy rash in infants
-
Sweat rashes or skin thrush (cutaneous candidiasis)
-
Fungal nail infections
How to Use It
-
Clean and dry the affected skin thoroughly before application.
-
Apply a thin layer to the infected area and the immediate surrounding skin.
-
Rub it in gently until it is fully absorbed.
-
Wash your hands immediately after use to prevent spreading the infection.
-
Frequency: Apply twice daily (morning and night) for skin infections, or once to twice daily for nail infections.
⚠️ Crucial Rule: Continue using the cream for at least 7 to 10 days after all visible symptoms have cleared. Stopping too early is the most common cause of fungal infections returning. Typical treatment length ranges from 2 to 6 weeks.
Important Safety Precautions
-
For external use only: Do not use it inside the eyes, nose, or mouth. (Note: For oral thrush, a specific formulation called Daktarin Oral Gel is used instead).
-
Drug Interactions: Miconazole can interact with certain oral medications. If you are taking oral blood thinners like warfarin, consult your doctor before using Daktarin, as it can dangerously increase the risk of bleeding.
-
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Consult a healthcare provider before using this product if you are pregnant or nursing.
-
Side Effects: You may experience mild local irritation, redness, or a burning sensation. Stop usage if you experience a severe allergic reaction (hives, swelling, or difficulty breathing).
