Foracort is a combination inhaler used for the long-term maintenance and prevention of Asthma and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). It is not a rescue inhaler for sudden breathing attacks.
How It Works
Foracort combines two medications to open airways and reduce inflammation:
-
Budesonide: An inhaled corticosteroid that reduces swelling and inflammation in the lungs.
-
Formoterol: A long-acting bronchodilator that relaxes the muscles in the airways to keep them open for several hours.
Common Strengths
Foracort is typically prescribed in different strengths depending on the severity of your condition:
-
Foracort 100: Budesonide (100 mcg) + Formoterol (6 mcg)
-
Foracort 200: Budesonide (200 mcg) + Formoterol (6 mcg)
-
Foracort 400: Budesonide (400 mcg) + Formoterol (6 mcg)
How to Use It
- Shake the inhaler well before use.
- Breathe out fully to empty your lungs.
- Place the mouthpiece in your mouth and close your lips tightly around it.
- Inhale deeply and slowly while pressing down on the canister to release the medication.
- Hold your breath for about 10 seconds, then breathe out slowly.
-
Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after every use to prevent fungal infections and throat irritation.
Side Effects
While Foracort is highly effective, it can cause mild side effects including a hoarse voice, dry or sore throat, and mild cough. Always consult a doctor if you experience severe side effects or if your breathing does not improve.
