Nizoral shampoo contains the active ingredient ketoconazole, which is a type of medicine called an antifungal. It is used to treat skin infections with fungi and yeasts.
Ketoconazole is used to prevent and treat a number of different types of fungal and yeast infections. Ketoconazole shampoo is used to treat skin conditions that are caused by infection with the yeast Pityrosporum, also known as Malassezia. These include the skin infection pityriasis versicolor, as well as seborrhoeic dermatitis and dandruff, which is considered to be a mild form of seborrhoeic dermatitis.
Like other shampoos, Nizoral shampoo also contains ingredients to clean your hair.
Dose
Wash the affected areas with Nizoral shampoo and leave for 3-5 minutes before rinsing. For the first 2-4 weeks, use every 3 or 4 days to clear dandruff. Thereafter, use once every 1-2 weeks to prevent the dandruff from coming back.
Precaution
- Skin reactions where you applied the shampoo, e.g. itching, irritation, blistering, redness, dry or tender skin, burning sensation
- Inflamed hair follicles, hair loss, changes in hair texture
- Increased tear production
- Skin rash, dry skin
