Otrivine Sinusitis Relief Nasal Spray is a medicated decongestant spray designed to rapidly clear nasal congestion, sinus pressure, and pain caused by sinusitis, common colds, and allergies like hay fever. It begins unblocking nasal passages in as little as 2 minutes and provides long-lasting relief for up to 10 hours.
How It Works
The spray contains the active ingredient xylometazoline hydrochloride (0.1% w/v). It works directly on the nasal tissue by narrowing the swollen blood vessels back to their normal size and reducing excess mucus production, making it significantly easier to breathe.
Dosage and Administration
-
Target Audience: Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older. It is strictly not suitable for infants or children under 12.
-
Dose: 1 spray into each nostril, up to 3 times daily as needed.
-
Spacing: Ensure applications are spread out, keeping a minimum of 8 hours between doses. Do not exceed 3 applications per nostril within a 24-hour period.
-
Maximum Duration: Do not use the spray continuously for more than 7 consecutive days. Prolonged use can cause the blood vessels to swell further, resulting in worsening, long-term congestion (rebound congestion or rhinitis medicamentosa).
How to Use the Spray
-
Prime the Pump: Before the first use, press the pump down 4 to 5 times until a fine mist is released. If you haven't used it for more than 7 days, reprime it with 2 sprays.
-
Prepare: Blow your nose gently to clear your nostrils.
-
Apply: Lean your head forward slightly and insert the short nozzle into one nostril. Press the pump once while breathing in gently through your nose.
-
Repeat: Follow the same process for the other nostril. Clean and dry the nozzle before replacing the cap.
-
Hygiene: To avoid spreading infections, each bottle must only be used by one person. Discard the bottle 28 days after first opening it.
