Skilax Drops

Skilax Drops is a stimulant and stool-softening laxative medication containing the active ingredient Sodium Picosulfate (7.5mg/mL). It is primarily used for the short-term relief of acute or occasional constipation and for bowel clearance before medical procedures or surgeries.

How It Works

The active ingredient, Sodium Picosulfate, is broken down by bacteria in the large intestine. Once activated, it works in two ways:

1. Stimulation: It stimulates the muscles of the intestinal wall, prompting bowel contractions to move stool through the colon.
2. Hydration: It helps retain water within the gut, which softens the stool and makes it easier to pass.

Skilax drops typically take 6 to 12 hours to produce results, which is why they are most commonly taken at bedtime to encourage a bowel movement the following morning. 

Standard Dosing Guidelines

The drops are taken orally and are usually mixed with water or juice. Each milliliter contains approximately 20 drops (0.375mg per drop).

• Adults: 10 to 15 drops once daily at bedtime.
• Children (6–10 years): 2 to 5 drops once daily at bedtime.
• Children (2–5 years): 2 to 3 drops once daily at bedtime.
• Infants (Under 1 year / under medical supervision): Dosing varies; standard literature notes 2 to 5 drops daily, but a pediatrician must always be consulted before giving this medication to a baby.

Note: You should avoid using this medication for more than 7 consecutive days unless directed by a doctor, as prolonged use can lead to bowel dependence or electrolyte imbalances.
