Description

Zyncet 10mg is an anti-allergic medication containing Cetirizine Hydrochloride as its active ingredient. It is a second-generation antihistamine used to relieve various allergy symptoms by blocking histamine, a natural chemical your body releases during an allergic reaction.

Primary Uses

  • Allergic Rhinitis: Relieves sneezing, runny or blocked nose, and itchy nasal passages caused by hay fever, dust, or pet dander allergies.
  • Eye Allergies: Minimizes red, itchy, and watery eyes (allergic conjunctivitis).
  • Skin Allergies: Manages chronic hives (urticaria), eczema, skin rashes, and insect bites by reducing swelling and severe itching.

How It Works

When you encounter an allergen, your body produces histamine, which causes inflammation, itching, and mucus production. Zyncet targets and blocks peripheral H1-histamine receptors. This stops the histamine from attaching, effectively preventing allergy symptoms.

Dosage Considerations

  • Administration: It can be taken orally with or without food. It is usually swallowed whole with water.
  • Timing: It is considered mostly "non-sedating". However, if it causes tiredness, taking the medication in the evening may be preferred.
  • Medical Consultation: The appropriate dosage should be determined by a healthcare provider, especially for individuals with underlying health conditions, such as kidney or liver disease.

Side Effects & Safety Precautions

While generally well-tolerated, some individuals may experience:

  • Mild drowsiness or fatigue
  • Dry mouth
  • Headaches or dizziness
  • Gastrointestinal upset (nausea, abdominal pain)

Important Warnings:

  • Alcohol & Machinery: Avoid alcohol, as it amplifies drowsiness. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery if you feel dizzy or sleepy.
  • Medical Conditions: If you have severe kidney or liver disease, consult a healthcare provider, as dosage adjustments may be required.
  • Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor before use, as cetirizine can pass into breast milk.
  • Allergy Tests: Stop taking Zyncet at least 3 days before an allergy skin test, as it will suppress the reaction and distort the results.
